  The invention of printing has greatly improved the speed and quality of the dissemination of Chinese characters, enabling more people to read the same characters and enjoy classics together, which has promoted the exchange and inheritance of civilization. In the Song Dynasty, when printing was highly developed, block printing was widely used, and a new type of calligraphy was born - Song Ti printing fonts.   In the early 1960s, in order to effectively protect and inherit the printed characters of Chinese characters, based on the Shanghai Institute of Printing Technology, it gathered Shanghai’s three-in-one talents with creative skills in art, proficiency in writing block letters, and experience in engraving characters. Developing and implementing the "Specifications for the Design of Chinese Character Printing Fonts", which lasted about 5 years, and successively completed the design and creation of four commonly used printing fonts: Song, Hei, Kai, and Fang, with a total of 80,000 characters.

  The original manuscripts of Song, Hei, Kai, and Fang, four new Chinese characters printed with new fonts, are not only the result of the innovation of traditional font writing skills, but also combined with modern digital information technology, becoming the original matrix of the invention of "Chinese character information processing laser phototypesetting technology". At the same time, it has been widely used in Chinese character databases at home and abroad, and has been derived and recreated with various styles and characteristics of the descendant Song, Hei, Kai and imitation Song fonts, which are widely used by various media. It has greatly enriched the treasure house of Chinese characters and made the growth of characters more vigorous.
